2020 Remembrance Service

In the absence of a formal service this year the Chairman, Councillor Gerry Lee, and Deputy Chairman, Councillor Judith Daley, attended the memorial to lay a wreath on behalf of the Parish Council.

Three Councillor Appointments - North Ward Following the notice of election 24th March 2023, the following Councillors have been elected on to the Parish Council. They will serve the parish until the next elections in May 2027. Cllr Judy Hardman Cllr Ken Hughes Cllr Debbie Stevens Four Councillor Vacancies - South Ward Four vacancies exist on the Parish Council, South Ward, due to no persons standing in the recent local elections. These vacancies will be filled by co-option. The term of office will run until May 2027. If you would like to serve as a Councillor please apply, in writing or by email, to the Clerk (details below, providing brief background details and stating why you would like to join the Council by 12th June 2023 To qualify, a person must be a British subject, aged over 18 years old, must reside in, or within 3 miles of, the Sefton and Lunt Villages Parish boundary or occupy as owner or tenant any land or premises therein, or have their principal or only place of work there, and must not be disqualified from holding office as a Councillor. • Parish Councillors are unpaid volunteers receiving only authorised out of pocket expenses all of which are reported in the minutes of the Parish Council. You should consider becoming a parish or town councillor if: • You want to do something positive for your community • You want to spend your time productively • You can think, listen and act locally You must also satisfy the following criteria: • be at least 18 years of age on the day you are co-opted. • be a British citizen, a qualifying citizen of a Commonwealth country, a citizen of the Irish Republic, or a citizen of another member state of the European Union You must also meet at least one of the four following qualifications on the day you are co-opted: • be registered as a local government elector for the local authority area in which you are standing • have occupied as an owner or a tenant any land or premises in the local authority area in which you are standing during the whole of the 12 months before the day you are co-opted. • have had your main or only place of work during the last 12 months in the local authority area in which you are standing • have lived in the local authority area in which you are standing during the whole of the last 12 months You may not be able to become a Councillor if you: • Hold a paid office, or other place of profit, of the Council • If you have been declared bankrupt within the last 12 months • If you have been imprisoned for 3 months or more within the last 5 years • If you have been convicted of any offences involving corrupt or illegal practices • If you have been convicted for the failure to register or declare disclosable interests If you are interested in joining the Parish Council please contact the Parish Clerk by email to clerk@seftonandluntparishcouncil.uk or by telephone on 07421 354877.

As well as cleaning local signs, Councillor Phyllis Roberts, is applying to work alongside Mersey Police in the creation of a local Community Speedwatch Scheme to try to reduce speeding traffic throughout the Parish. Volunteers are needed to help make this scheme a success so if you have some time to spare and would like to get involved please contact us by email to clerk@seftonandluntparishcouncil.uk or by phone or text to 07421 354877.

At the request of the Parish Council, Sefton MBC have been in contact with the owner of the land on which this historic cross base is located and ensured that the base and surrounding area is cleared.

This year's service was attended by all Parish Councillors and was very well attended in general. A wreath was laid on behalf of the Parish Council by the Chairman, Councillor Gerard Lee along with several other wreaths shown above.

A new notice board was recently installed in Sefton Village by Councillors Lee and Greason with the help of volunteers. The notice board is located next to the cenotaph opposite St Helen's Church and will be used to display notices about upcoming Parish Council Meetings and other Parish Council information. This is the first notice board to be installed as part of the Parish Council's plans to increase engagement with the community by providing better access to information about what the Parish Council does.

At a meeting on 7th October 2019 members of Sefton and Lunt Villages Parish Council voted to adopt a new logo kindly designed for them voluntarily by a graphic design student studying at Southport College. The green colour of the logo was chosen to represent the conservation area and rural nature of the Parish which the shape of the logo being based on the cenotaph opposite St Helens Church.

Councillor Roberts was elected as a member of the Parish Council in August 2019 and has quickly got to work improving road safety within the parish.
